Hinoki House is a private retreat located in the leafy district of Menteng, Jakarta, crafted to counter the density and frenetic energy of its urban surroundings.
In a neighborhood defined by tightly packed houses and narrow streets, the residence establishes an oasis of calm through thoughtful spatial planning and a seamless relationship with nature.

Set back from the street, the second floor retreats behind a veil of timber screens and lush plantings, providing privacy while allowing filtered light to permeate the interior.

At the entry, a garden void welcomes visitors, anchored by two towering trees that reach skyward and are visible from the master bedroom above. Inside, wood textures and neutral surfaces foster a continuous, earthy palette that ties the entire residence together.
Moving inward, a koi pond introduces a moment of reflection and tranquility, accompanied by natural stone arrangements that animate the garden with quiet texture.

The open-plan living room flows directly into a central courtyard, where quiet reading, and outdoor meals coexist.
Expansive sliding glass doors dissolve boundaries between indoors and out, enabling natural ventilation and a fluid living experience. This permeability enhances comfort across Jakarta’s tropical seasons.

Materiality throughout Hinoki House reinforces its bond to nature.
Exteriors clad in ironwood and board-formed concrete are designed to weather gracefully, allowing the home to blend more deeply into its setting over time.

Hinoki House demonstrates how sensitive architecture can restore balance in an urban environment—through spaces that breathe, surfaces that age, and a constant dialogue with the natural world.
